BISHOP OF KUMBO ANNOUNCES NEW DATE FOR CHRISM MASS 2020

Most Rev. George Nkuo, Bishop of Kumbo, has announced a new date for the Chrism Mass. In a circular dated May 22, 2020, he has indicated that the Mass shall be celebrated on May 28, 2020, in St Theresa Cathedral at 9 a.m.

The Mass had been postponed indefinitely from April 8, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The new circular from the Bishop places restrictions and limits those to be present at the Mass, in accordance with current norms to combat the virus. It shall therefore be celebrated without the usual pump and heavy attendance from the Diocese.

The Chrism Mass is the Mass during which the blessing of the Oils of the Sick and Catechumen as well as the Consecration of the Chrism are carried out by the Bishop. Priests also renew their Ordination promises. The Mass which the Bishop concelebrates with his presbyterate is a way of manifestation of the Priests’ communion with their Bishop. All priests of the diocese are ordinarily supposed to attend. In our local Church, it is also a day for the people to carry out a special collection to support the Bishop’s pastoral Ministry.
