Shisong filled with joy to welcome TSSF Superior General
From the Shisong Catholic Church premises through the market square to the convent of the TSSF, the Christian community, inhabitants of Shisong and the Sisters of the TSSF shisong welcomed their General Superior, Sr. Theodosia Baki. She was elected at the last General chapter in July 2019. Amidst song and dance in traditional melodies and rhythms various groups rallied in procession on Saturday 30 November 2019 to welcome back home this daughter of the land, who returns as the new “Mother” of about 500 sisters of the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis spread all over the world spread in three continents: Africa, Europe and America. She was led in procession to the Shisong convent chapel where together with the new Provincial leadership team they all knelt before the altar as the people prayed for them.
But the high point and more interesting part of the reception was on Dec 1, 2019, with Sunday’s 7a.m, Mass officiated by Fr. Tobias Wirmum OFM cap, Parish Priest of Shisong. His homily challenged all and sundry to “stay awake” in peace and hope as they prepare to welcome Christ at Christmas, and this means fostering peace and being peace-giving. He also thanked God for the for the services that Sr. Theodosia who is a member of TSSF Shisong before she was sent to work in other places around the world. He noted the delight of the people to welcome home the new General Superior, as they had all joined to give thanks to God for the life and service of Sr. Theodosia Baki. Traditional rulers and the Parish Pastoral Council, before the final blessings gave symbolic gifts to ‘Mother Theodosia” whom they all described as a ‘worthy daughter” of theirs.
Sr. Theodosia, in a soft, stable confident and bold tone, addressing the community for the first time officially said amongst others that she was happy to be back home even during unsure and unsafe times. As she spoke in fluent English language and Lamnso, she asked for continuous prayers and support for her and Sisters in Shisong in general. Sentiments of deep gratitude couldn’t escape being noted as she spoke of her warm and unexpected reception which according to her, will go a long way to inspire and nourish her in the new function. In addition, she presented the new Provincial leadership team, which like her have the same term of office of six years renewable once. This latter leadership team composed of five Sisters were elected at the last and 8th Provincial chapter which took about two weeks at the Laverna Spiritual Center, Archdiocese of Bamenda, last November 2019. The Provincial team includes: Sr. Gloria Wirba Kenyuyfo’on (Provincial Superior), Sr. Nicole Nchanji (Vicar), Sr. Mediatrix Wirba (2nd Councilor), Sr. Ireline Javnyuy (3rd Councilor) and Sr. Hedwig Njong (4th Councilor).
They will lead the Cameroon Province made up 5 countries, including Cameroon, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Congo and Morocco, in 41 communities of about 315 sisters all over. This team which is described by some as vibrant and young is however experienced and hardworking, and so others see it as composed of women of faith and substance and make TSSF an empowering presence of in the lives of the peoples they govern. One can only wish all the new leaders the best in their ministry with God’s grace.
